Mr. Manzo Tanaka was a Japanese Immigrant from Kabe, Hiroshima. He arrived on the Island of Kauai, Hawaii to work in the sugar plantation. In Japan, he was a skilled blacksmith. Manzo's first retail business was selling lunch containers, made of tin, that he fabricated, and sold to his friends that worked in the sugar fields across the island. M. Tanaka Store was established in 1915 in the town of Nawiliwili and was incorporated in 1975. The store is a family operated business and is currently managed by the fourth generation of Manzo's family.
Today, M. Tanaka Store, Inc is located in the town of Lihue on the Island of Kauai. Known as a small business that carries a "whole lotta stuff". We are dedicated to providing the residences of Kauai with quality hardware, plumbing supplies, top of the line masonry tools and custom sheet metal service and marine supplies for our local boaters.
